The great progress of perinatal medicine makes it possible for newborns with very high prematurity and very low birth weight to survive. The percentage of organic damage that these premature babies will present tends to decrease. This is achieved at the price of a long hospitalization and consequently a prolonged separation of the newborn from its mother.
