It is urgent that in Greece, too, the pregnancy and infancy periods are framed and adequately supported by skilled practitioners with an in-depth understanding of the psychic functioning of the mother, the infant, and the couple during this critical period.

Today more than ever, giving birth represents a collective phenomenon. As a society and health professionals, we need to interrogate the practices we use to prevent infant abandonment, neglect, and abuse.

The birth process can reverse the traumatic past of the most severely traumatised parent if it is appropriately framed by health professionals specialised in childbirth and infancy.
